English speaking Psychologist Milan
I am a chartered English speaking psychologist and psychotherapist registered with the Italian Board of Psychologists. I have been working as a mental-health practitioner for over ten years with adults, adolescents, couples and families, specialising in anxiety, depression, loss and trauma. My work as a therapist draws primarily on psychodynamic theory, which I integrate with elements of other approaches such as CBT, systemic theory and positive psychology to tailor the treatment plan to the specific needs of the client.
I began my post-graduate training in 2015 in the UK working in a multi-family therapy NHS clinic and then continued working in the public sector liaising with schools and local mental health services.
I then moved back to Italy and worked as a clinical psychologist for Non Profit organisations. I am currently working as a private practitioner in Milan offering short-term goal focused therapy as well as mid-long term psychotherapy.
My personal experience as an Italian-American has made me aware of the complex dynamics of being immersed in diverse cultures. In studying psychology I became curious about the impact that culture and being “away from home” have on psychological wellbeing, and between 2013 and 2016 I studied for my Post Graduate Diploma in Transcultural Psychotherapy. I now work with people from all over the world in Milan.
Beginning a therapeutic journey is not always easy, so as a therapist, I aim to create a context in which my clients can share their problems and talk about themselves freely in an open, non-judgemental environment.
Together we explore the situation that has brought them to consult with me, in order to gain a better understanding of the issues they are struggling with. This initial phase also allows me to gather the elements I need to suggest relevant coping strategies and support the client in bringing out hidden or untapped resources so that they can deal with their situation more effectively.
Therapy is a collaborative process – it is important to strike a balance between the professional expertise of the therapist and the life-experience of the client, who is in fact the real expert of their “inner world”: thoughts, feelings, relationships, fears and aspirations.
Sometimes a short course of therapy can be enough to work through a problem. Other times the open conversations that take place in the therapy room can lead to the discovery of elements of the client’s past experience which are still causing them pain, distress or confusion. It is up to the client to decide if they want to address these as part of the treatment plan. Dealing with painful experiences head on may seem daunting or overwhelming, which is why I try to establish a strong relationship of trust and support so that I can accompany my clients in the challenging yet rewarding process of self-discovery. The aim of this journey is to reach a greater sense of wellbeing and face life’s challenges with strength, optimism and resilience.
I am the daughter of two cultures – Italian father and American mother – and I have lived, studied and worked in the United States, Italy, and England. Partly because of this mixed background, and partly because I am curious by nature, I have travelled all over the world to find out about other cultures, customs and practices.
I am passionate about the arts: working with artistic forms is a unique way for people to express themselves, grow, build relationships, and transform the communities they live in. I am constantly looking to discover new ways of using art – in particular music, dance and theatre – in my personal life as well as in my professional work.
As much as I love working with people, I sometimes feel the need to take some time to go out in nature either to practice outdoor sports or simply enjoy its peace and beauty.
I am a Private English speaking Psychologist and Psychotherapist in Milan specialized in psychological therapies for adults, children, couples, families and teenagers.
