What are Mood Disorders?
Mood Disorders are a diagnostic category that includes a number of mental health disorders whose symptoms mainly consist of alterations or anomalies in the person's mood, which are of such intensity as to cause persistent dysfunction or marked discomfort. The average age of mood disorders onset is late adolescence / early adulthood.

Signs of Mood Disorders
The term Mood Disorder is commonly used to describe a group of disorders, characterised by the following signs:
- In depressive phases: lowering of mood and decreased energy and activity, significant weight loss not due to diet or weight gain, loss of interest and pleasurable feelings, insomnia or hypersomnia, agitation or psychomotor retardation, lethargy, concentration problems.
- In the manic or hypomanic phases: A period of abnormal, persistent, elevated, expansive or irritable mood accompanied by hypertrophic self-esteem or grandeur, decreased need for sleep, more talkative than usual, distractibility, increased activity or psychomotor agitation.
