Mentalisation-based Therapy in London | MBT Treatment
What is Mentalisation-based Therapy (MBT)?
Mentalisation-based Therapy (MBT) is a long-term, time-limited and structured psychotherapy designed to increase understanding of thoughts, beliefs, and feelings while associating them with our actions and behaviours. The goal is to improve an individual’s capacity to mentalise-understand and alleviate problematic behaviours in themselves and others. A goal of MBT is to identify difficulty in your life presently and gain understanding of your emotions and behaviours.
Additionally, Mentalisation-based Therapy (MBT) will allow you practise understanding of the thoughts and behaviours of others and their responses to you. MBT can help an individual gain perspective and increase self-control in regard to impulsive behaviour and emotions resulting in improvement of your relationships with others. A primary goal of MBT is anticipating the intention of another person and making sense of the environment.
How does Mentalisation-based Therapy (MBT) work?
While attending MBT sessions, you will:
- work with your therapist to identify and process difficulties you are presently having and assess their development and continuation.
- identify and process relationships of importance in your life and issues you may be having in those relationships.
- be asked to identify and process your behaviour, responses and actions, as well as motivation for behaviours that occur in your relationships and your environment.
- participate in sessions that occur one time per week and last approximately 50 minutes.
