I am a Spanish and English speaking counsellor in Rome, registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the British Psychological Society (BPS) in England, as well as the Virginia Board of Psychology in the United States of America. I am skilled and experienced in providing therapeutic services to clients on an individual and group basis. I obtained my doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology in 2008, and I have since worked with a culturally diverse clientele in a wide range of treatment settings, including hospitals, emergency care centres, and community outreach programs.
I am passionate about working collaboratively with clients in order to ensure that treatment is individualised and adapted to their specific needs. As a counsellor, I feel honoured to be allowed to assist clients in developing the necessary skills to reach their goals and improve the quality of their lives.
Whilst I have completed clinical training in a wide range of therapeutic approaches throughout my career, my therapeutic work is guided by evidence-based models such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). These therapeutic approaches aim to increase a client’s awareness of the impact of their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours on their daily lives, and increase their ability to successfully overcome distress by enhancing problem-solving and coping skills. Research has proven CBT, DBT, and ACT to be effective in the treatment of a wide range of psychological difficulties, including anxiety, depression, substance misuse, trauma, phobias, personality disorders, adjustment difficulties, and others.
I aim to create a non-judgmental therapeutic space where I can develop successful working relationships with clients based on respect and understanding in order to maximise the effectiveness of treatment. I believe every person deserves to have treatment suited to their unique needs, and not the other way around. Therefore, my objective is to actively and collaboratively work with clients in a problem-focused manner. In other words, I work with my clients on the areas of their lives they value as important and in need of improvement. My goal is then to assist clients in the process of developing insight and the necessary skills to overcome the challenges of their daily lives and improve their quality of life.
I can easily say that travelling and meeting people from different cultures has taught me a great deal about who I am as a person and increased my level of understanding of the world and others around me. I enjoy challenging myself to new experiences and embracing new life lessons. I am also very enthusiastic about eating well, whether it is cooking at home or going to a new restaurant, I am always happy whilst searching for my next great culinary discovery.
