English-speaking Therapist Rome
Hello, my name is Isabelle Doré and I am a graduate student from l’Université du Québec à Montréal, Canada. I have been studying psychology in school (and in life!) for many years now and have decided to come to Rome for the final year of my doctoral program in order to expand my knowledge in transcultural psychology. I have practiced therapy in both English and French, but cannot yet practice in Italian (sto imparando, piano piano!).
I have completed a 3-year bachelor’s degree (B.Sc Hons Psychology) and am currently finishing a 5-year doctoral program (Psy.D) in clinical psychology. I have completed two clinical internships, the first in general psychiatry within a university clinic setting, and the second at the Sex and Couple Therapy Service at the McGill University Health Center, which offers treatment and consultation services for sexual/relational problems in the context of individual, couples’ and group therapy. During my doctoral program, I also completed a thesis on the subject of the link between mental health and self-compassion.
In the course of my clinical internships, I received training in CBT and humanistic-existential therapy, as well as Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples and Acceptance Commitment Therapy for groups. Over the years, I have also completed many brief training programs in Coherence Therapy, Schema Therapy, ACT, Developmental Trauma, Psychodynamic models of personality.
During my internships in Rome, I will be seeing clients in my office in Rome Nomentano, and will receive weekly supervision by Dr. Daria Russo.
My approach is one centered around building a genuine, trusting and non-judgmental relationship with my clients in order to explore the different periods of their life and identify certain patterns (thoughts, habits, behaviors) that may contribute to their difficulties and suffering. I am a firm believer in using the therapeutic relationship as a way of shedding light on relational dynamics (that is, the way we relate to ourselves and to others), in order to understand and work with them. My goal as a therapist is first, to allow my clients to feel free and safe enough to express and explore who they are, and then ultimately to empower them to bring changes into their lives according to their needs and their personal values.
Though I am fascinated by human development in general, I am particularly interested in understanding how early attachment experiences and culture, both familial and societal, contribute to shaping each one of us. Though I have mostly worked with adults and young adults, I would also love to work with adolescents and families, as well. During my clinical internships, I have had the opportunity to help clients overcome difficulties related to anxiety, depression, trauma, personality disorders, and have been trained by experts in the field of couples’ and sex therapy in Montreal, Canada.
I love my work and believe it is a true privilege to have people put their trust in me throughout their therapeutic journey. Though it is an arduous process at times - having been through it myself, I can vouch for that! - I truly believe in the therapeutic work and all the benefits and growth that can come from it.
Fervently curious and in love with the planet as well as its inhabitants, I enjoy being able to travel, taste, feel, read, laugh, explore, and learn (always).
I am a Private English and French-speaking trainee Clinical Psychologist offering individual, couples and group therapy in Rome.
