Counselling & Psychotherapy for Adults in London & Rome
Our Psychology Team offer a wide range of therapeutic approaches. Generally speaking, Psychological therapies fall into four categories: Cognitive Behavioural Therapies, which focus on cognitions and behaviours; Psychoanalytical and Psychodynamic Therapies, which focus on the unconscious relationship patterns that evolved from childhood, Humanistic Therapies, which focus on self-development in the 'here and now'; Other Therapies, such as EMDR. Below is a breakdown of the Psychological Therapies for Adults available at our Clinics in London and Rome.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapies are based on the way you think and/or the way you behave. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy developed by American psychiatrist Professor A. Beck in the early 1960s. In recent years CBT has expanded its focus to include a so-called third wave of psychotherapies, which includes Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Schema Therapy (ST).
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a fairly new, nontraditional type of psychotherapy. EMDR is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. It's growing in popularity, particularly for treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Psychoanalytical and Psychodynamic Therapies are rooted in the theories and principles of Psychoanalysis. These include Psychodynamic Counselling, Attachment-based Therapy, Mentalisation-based Therapy (MBT). These therapies explore how the unconscious mind influences thoughts and behaviours, with the aim of offering insight and resolution to the client.
